Hey, I’m part of this Storymoja Festival 2014!

Why do humans have to sway their arms while they walk? I dunno boss, but it just feels right. That’s what this post feels like. Apparently aware that most of you think I’m the useless dude in campus chasing away the cold by roasting maize on electric coils, I’ve decided to let you in on my recent escapades. Looks can be deceiving. The coolest thing this year, after that damn July-August cold span, is what I’ve been ‘pretending’ to work on. Are bragging rights enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya… er… um… okay, I’m an intern with the Storymoja Festival 2014. So, yeah, I’m not useless :D. And hey, I’m part of this Storymoja Festival 2014! This’ what I do. Watch some dramas and read. Sometimes I even pretend to write, but I’m not fooling anyone. Oh, and I go to the Storymoja Meetings (*very important*). You can check out awesome pics of our meetings here at elly’s blog.

I think there are a lot of people who really want to be famous, they really do. We don’t. It sort of gets in the way of the everyday things that we do. Our intern job description: Hosting the festival artists and you, the guests, as you all meet your favorite authors during the festival that runs from 17th to 22nd Sept. 2014 at the Nairobi National Museum. That’s the best unfunny i can give you.

Ever finished a book? I mean, truly finished one? Cover to cover. Closed the spine with that slow awakening that comes with reentering consciousness? You take a breath, deep from the bottom of your lungs and sit there. Book in both hands, your head staring down at the cover, back page or wall in front of you. You’re grateful, thoughtful, pensive. You feel like a piece of you was just gained and lost. You’ve just experienced something deep, something intimate. (Maybe, erotic?) You just had an intense and somewhat transient metamorphosis. This is for you!

Storymoja Festival has fast gained a reputation for being a vibrant gathering of the greatest minds in Kenya and beyond, celebrating ideas and culture. For the sixth year in a row, the Festival will be transforming Nairobi into the heart beat of literature, art and thought-provoking conversations.

This year we present to you Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka; filmmaker Kenny Mann; reknowned poets Kwame Dawes, Sitawa Namwalie, Kennet B, Ladan Osman, Liyou Libsekal, Matthew Shenoda, Teardrops, Vuyelwa Maluleke, Abigail Arunga, Njeri Wangari; Fiction writers – Prajwal Parajuly, Oduor Jagero, Vered Ehsani, Kinyanjui Kombani, Tony Mochama, Ciku Kimeria, Alexander Nderitu, Ndiritu Wahome, Doreen Baingana; artists – Mshai Mwangola, Dizraeli, Sauti Sol (band), Fedelis Kyalo amongst many others!

Everything looks better with your eyes closed. So do it, then imagine. Not food. Your mental make-ups are the contents of your everyday thinking; they carry a charge that can either transform, reform or destroy you. Watch your thoughts, they determine your life! That’s why this year’s festival theme is “Imagine The World“. It’s for open-minded fellars. Watch out though, lest your brain falls off.

Talk of music with words, unlike all the dirty whatevers we hear around? … A combo ticket of both Story Moja and the Sauti Sol concert will be going for a whooping 2,000 bob at the gate, but with your Buymore card you can get tickets at 1,200 bob. Just in case you are calculating this is 40% off!! 🙂 For the Sauti Sol concert alone you get to attend at 700 bob…

I mean, ladies, why wait for some retard of a dark knight in shining armor slaying dragons out there, to arrive and sweep you off your feet, when Storymoja Festival 2014 will actually whirlwind you, take the ground and leave no ground to stand on? Oh, dudes, the ladies are all coming :). Much fun for the kiddos too. The Festival is here, a five day celebration and showcase of literature and the arts. We have lined up more than 140 events, 21 international artists and over 60 local artists. Everyone is burning with mwenjoyment; not enough though, the other interns just ordered me to pour gasoline on the flame.

By the way, thank me for this. Don’t hate yourself, visit the Facebook Pages Storymoja Africa and/or Storymoja Hay Festival, like that, keep calm while participating in the daily activities and challenges, and I smell a free ticket coming your way 🙂 .Then there’s this discounted tickets thingy => Sauti Sol Concert – Story Moja Music Festival. Plus the launch at the Courtyard at the Storymoja Hay Festival of Diaper Mentality Exhibition conceived by photojournalist, Boniface Mwangi. No more hints, I’m not the boss :D, just an intern :). The other interns are here having a nap, you can say hi.

Don’t be left out. Tickets are available at www.ticketsasa.com at only Kshs.1000 while the seasonal tickets are only Kshs. 1500. I just poured the festival artists’ faces down here for you to ogle and “Imagine The World”. All these are attending! Click on the pics to suit your insatiable desires :). See me there! Please look for me.

  2. Hi. I’ve just started following your blog because this caught my eye but what you’re doing sounds totally awesome! You know what they say: modern business is built on all the coffees delivered by interns. Please note: ‘they’ didn’t say this. I just came up with it based on what I know 😀

    1. Haha, you made that up ?! IKR :d You should know an intern is on a strict diet of snark and sarcasm. Keep calm and volunteer :D. And yes, this is FUN, Nadz93!! You should also get to the Festival, shouldn’t you?
